Description
Valentini Puffer (Canthigaster valentini)
The Valentini Puffer, also known as the Saddled Toby, is a small and charismatic pufferfish, easily identified by its white body covered in dark spots and the distinctive black “saddle” markings along its back. With its curious personality and comical swimming style, it quickly becomes a favorite in any aquarium. While its compact size makes it more manageable than larger puffers, it is still equipped with a powerful beak-like mouth used to crush invertebrates and hard-shelled prey.
Size: Typically grows up to 4 inches in length
Country of Origin: Indo-Pacific
Latin Name: Canthigaster valentini
Care Level: Moderate – does best in aquariums with plenty of swimming space, live rock, and a varied diet
Valentini Puffers are omnivores that thrive on a mix of meaty foods such as shrimp, clams, and squid, as well as occasional plant matter. While they are full of personality, they are not fully reef-safe and may nip at corals, clams, or invertebrates. They are best kept with peaceful to moderately assertive tankmates that can tolerate their curious and sometimes mischievous behavior.
