Polleni Grouper

$330.00

Polleni Grouper (Cephalopholis polleni)

The Polleni Grouper, also known as the Harlequin Hind or Harlequin Grouper, is a stunning and elusive reef predator prized for its deep violet to indigo coloration covered in bright yellow or orange spotting. Its striking contrast and graceful swimming behavior make it a standout centerpiece in large marine aquariums. Though reclusive at first, it often becomes bolder once acclimated, showing off its brilliant hues in open water.

Size: Typically grows up to 18 inches in length

Country of Origin: Western Pacific Ocean, including Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Great Barrier Reef

Latin Name: Cephalopholis polleni

Care Level: Moderate to Difficult – requires a large, well-maintained aquarium with ample rockwork for hiding and pristine water quality

Polleni Groupers are carnivores that feed on small fish, crustaceans, and meaty marine foods. In captivity, they thrive on a diet of silversides, shrimp, squid, and other high-protein offerings. They are not reef safe, as they will consume smaller tankmates and ornamental crustaceans, but make a spectacular show fish for predator or fish-only systems.
