Flameback Angelfish (Centropyge acanthops)

The Flameback Angelfish, also known as the African Pygmy Angelfish, is a dazzling and compact species admired for its vivid contrast of colors. Its deep blue body is highlighted by a bright orange-yellow back and upper body, with electric blue accents outlining the fins. Small but bold, this angelfish brings vibrant color and lively activity to smaller reef or fish-only aquariums.

Size: Typically grows up to 3 inches in length

Country of Origin: Western Indian Ocean, commonly found around the coast of East Africa and nearby islands such as Mauritius

Latin Name: Centropyge acanthops

Care Level: Moderate – best suited for a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter

Flameback Angelfish are omnivores that thrive on a varied diet of marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and high-quality angelfish foods. They are considered semi–reef safe, as some individuals may occasionally nip at soft corals or clam mantles, especially if underfed or kept in smaller environments.
