Known for its alert behavior and unique burrowing lifestyle, the Blue Spot Jawfish adds life and character to the sandbed of reef displays.

Size: Typically grows up to 4 inches in length

Country of Origin: Eastern Pacific Ocean, primarily found in the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez)

Latin Name: Opistognathus rosenblatti**

Care Level: Moderate to Difficult – requires a mature aquarium with a deep sandbed (at least 3–4 inches) for burrowing, plenty of rubble, and stable, cooler water temperatures (72–78°F)

Blue Spot Jawfish are carnivores that feed on zooplankton and small meaty foods in the wild. In captivity, they thrive on a varied diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and other small marine fare. They are reef safe, posing no threat to corals or invertebrates, but may become stressed if not provided with adequate hiding spaces or tankmates that respect their territory.
